The operations were carried out by personnel from the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), led by the San Pedro Police Station, together with the Criminal Investigation Unit, Criminal Investigation and Detection Management Unit, 1st and 2nd City Mobile Force Companies, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Central Office, Regional Intelligence Division 11, and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 11. Authorities said the five suspects, who were reportedly shop operators and employees, were caught in the act of allegedly manufacturing and selling unauthorized vehicle license plates during the synchronized entrapment operations.
Seized during the raids were 66 unauthorized license plates, marked money, official receipts, and equipment allegedly used in the production of the plates, including plotter cutters, metal molders and other specialized tools.
The arrested individuals are expected to face charges for falsification of documents under Article 172 of the Revised Penal Code, possession of implements for falsification under Article 176, and violations of the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act (Republic Act No. 11235), as amended by Republic Act No. 12209.
Authorities warned that the use of fake or unauthorized plates can make it easier for individuals involved in criminal activities to conceal the identities of vehicles and evade law enforcement.
DCPO chief Colonel Peter Madria said they will continue their crackdown on unauthorized plate manufacturing and other activities that undermine the country's vehicle registration and road security systems.
