Davao Light inaugurated its 29th distribution substation on Tuesday, August 25, at Barangay San Pedro, Panabo City, marking the completion of the first phase of the project.
The 10-megavolt-ampere (MVA), 69/13.8-kilovolt (kV) San Pedro Substation was energized on August 2 and placed under load six days later.
The facility primarily serves the 63-hectare Anflo Industrial Estate (AIE), a Philippine Economic Zone Authority-accredited special economic zone, while also adding power capacity for Panabo and surrounding communities.
Davao Light said the substation is the fourth distribution substation in Panabo City and forms part of its continuing efforts to upgrade its distribution network amid rising electricity demand.
A second phase is planned to increase the facility’s capacity by another 33 MVA, with completion targeted for December 2027.
Once fully developed, the substation is expected to feature digital and automated monitoring systems that will allow engineers to track operations and respond to power-related issues more efficiently.
The project will also incorporate sustainability measures, including a solar power system for lighting and other facility requirements and a rainwater harvesting system for cleaning and routine maintenance.
Davao Light President and Chief Operating Officer Enriczar Tia said the project is intended to provide the electricity capacity needed by businesses and communities as the area continues to develop.
“The San Pedro Substation powers the economic engines in the AIE, Panabo, and neighboring areas,” Tia said.
He added that strengthening the power grid in Davao del Norte would help provide businesses with more reliable electricity while preparing the distribution network for future growth.
The project is part of Davao Light’s broader network expansion program across its franchise area, which includes communities in Davao del Norte.
Damosa Land Incorporated President Ricardo Lagdameo underscored the importance of reliable power supply in sustaining industrial growth and attracting more investors to Davao del Norte.
He said the availability of stable and reliable electricity is crucial as more companies expand their operations and new investors consider establishing businesses in the area.
Lagdameo described the facility as a strategic investment that would help strengthen AIE’s competitiveness and support the long-term operations of industries in the area.
