Go joined local officials led by Maramag Mayor Atty. Jose Joel Doromal and Vice Mayor John Lester “Jan-Jan” Tan-Malack Tan, together with municipal councilors, barangay officials and health workers. Valencia City Mayor Cecil Galario was also among those present.
As a health reforms crusader, Go has consistently advocated strengthening the country’s healthcare system from the community level upward, maintaining that Filipinos should not have to travel long distances simply to obtain consultations, diagnostics, and other basic medical services.
The Maramag facility forms part of the network of Super Health Centers being developed nationwide to serve as an intermediate level of care between barangay health stations and larger hospitals.
Go has repeatedly emphasized that primary care facilities are especially important in provinces where distance, transportation costs, and limited hospital access can discourage patients from seeking treatment early.
Bukidnon has 15 Super Health Centers funded across different municipalities and cities, including facilities in Kadingilan, Kitaotao, Malaybalay, Pangantucan, Sumilao, San Fernando, Kalilangan, Manolo Fortich, Quezon, Talakag, Don Carlos, Impasug-Ong, Libona, Valencia and Maramag. The Maramag Super Health Center was among the facilities listed for turnover this year.
Go stressed, through his continuing health advocacy, that improving access to community-based care can help patients address medical concerns earlier and reduce unnecessary congestion in tertiary hospitals.
His healthcare agenda also includes Republic Act No. 11463, or the Malasakit Centers Act, which he principally authored and sponsored, and RA 11959, or the Regional Specialty Centers Act, which seeks to expand access to specialized medical services outside Metro Manila.
Bukidnon also has a Malasakit Center at Bukidnon Provincial Hospital in Maramag, part of the nationwide network of one-stop shops assisting qualified patients in accessing medical assistance from concerned government agencies.
Go has likewise pushed measures supporting the country’s healthcare workforce, including Senate Bill No. 412, or the proposed Magna Carta of Barangay Health Workers, as well as SBN 1352 seeking additional protection for workers in the private health sector.
During the Maramag activity, Go also recognized the contributions of barangay health workers who serve as frontliners in their respective communities. As a gesture of appreciation, grocery packs and other tokens were distributed to the local BHWs.
The senator has repeatedly described BHWs as an essential link between communities and the formal healthcare system, particularly in areas where they are often the first people residents approach for basic health concerns.
Go said through his continuing initiatives that the expansion of healthcare infrastructure must be matched by sufficient personnel, equipment and operational support so facilities do not merely get built, but actually deliver services to residents.
The senator maintained that the opening of the Maramag Super Health Center represents another step toward a healthcare system where prevention, early consultation and basic treatment are available closer to Filipino families.
He reiterated his commitment to working with the Department of Health and local governments to strengthen primary care, support health workers, and ensure that public investments in healthcare translate into services that people can actually feel in their communities.
“Patuloy kaming magseserbisyo sa inyo dahil bisyo ko ang magserbisyo at ako ay naniniwala na ang serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo ‘yan sa Panginoon, serbisyo ‘yan kay Allah,” underscored Go who is known as Mr. Malasakit for his compassionate service to Filipinos in need.
