The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and other agencies under the Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food, and Transport (UPLIFT) Committee met with Executive Secretary Thursday to discuss measures addressing rising fuel and operating costs affecting the transport sector.
Among the issues tackled was a proposed adjustment in public transport fares, with the DOTr saying a decision may be reached in the coming days.
The agency also announced another round of targeted assistance through the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program for qualified transport operators and drivers.
Meanwhile, existing UPLIFT measures remain in place, including toll exemptions for provincial buses, terminal fee waivers at PITX, membership fee waivers at SM public transport terminals, 50% discounts on MRT-3 and LRT-2 fares, reduced RoRo terminal fees, and free ride services.
